Health & Safety Tips
- At Gulmarg Phase 2 (4,200m), move slowly. Symptoms of altitude sickness: headache, dizziness, nausea. Descend immediately if they appear
- Drink plenty of water at high altitude — minimum 3 litres per day. Avoid alcohol at elevation
- Carry a small pharmacy: paracetamol, antacid, anti-diarrhoeal, bandage, antiseptic cream, sunscreen SPF 50+
- Warm inner layer + windproof jacket is sufficient for summer. Temperature at 4,200m can drop to 5°C even in June
- Those with heart, respiratory or BP conditions must consult a doctor before attempting Gondola Phase 2
Photography Tips
- Best Taj Mahal shots: Stand at the far end of the central pool, 1 hour before sunset. The marble turns golden
- Dal Lake at sunrise: The shikara reflections and mountain mist make for extraordinary photos — wake up at 6 AM
- Charge all devices the night before day trips — power outlets may not be available in remote areas
- At Gulmarg and Sonmarg bring extra memory cards — the landscape is insanely photogenic
- Photography is restricted inside the Taj Mahal mausoleum interior. Keep your camera in the bag when entering
Money & Connectivity
- Carry minimum ₹5,000–8,000 cash per person for Kashmir. ATMs are rare in Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam
- Only JIO, Airtel and BSNL Postpaid SIMs work in J&K. Prepaid SIMs from outside do not function
- Internet can be slow or unavailable in mountain valleys. Download offline maps before leaving Srinagar city
- UPI payments work at most hotels and larger markets. Small vendors and pony operators prefer cash
- Keep tour manager's number saved offline. Network may drop on mountain roads
